Durdle Dusk | Durdle Dawn

The limestone arch at Durdle Door is the iconic landmark of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England. The dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast are ripples of folding rocks formed 25 million years ago when two tectonic plates collided, also creating the Alps. The 'Durdle' is derived from the Old English thyrel: ‘having a hole'. The ‘Door’ is likely a tautology, therefore. These two – deeply unoriginal – photographs were taken at dusk on the last day of 2019 and at dawn on the first day of 2020
