Mælifell
Up in the highlands of Iceland there is a big green island situated in a sea of black volcanic ash. The island is an exquisitely symmetrical extinct volcano, called Mælifell (lit. the Measuring Hill), which lies like a beacon between the mountainous Fjallabak Nature Reserve and the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. In Darren Aronofski’s 2014 film, Noah, it featured as Methuselah’s abode and there is a mythical quality to the landscape. These six photographs show Mælifell from various angles and in different lighting conditions. Whether shooting wide or long, from above or below or come rain or shine, Mælifell is impossibly perfect.
