The Golden Gate Ridge
The vista from atop the Great Ridge, with the gate and path leading towards Hollins Cross, is the classic view of England’s Peak District National Park. In fact, it’s so popular that even on a freezing January morning, after hiking up in the dark, the spot is soon thronging with photographers, all seeking to capture sunrise over the Derbyshire countryside. If not original, every photograph is unique, and may be meaningful to the person who took it. To me, the sunburst landing in the frozen puddle captures the transition between night and day, cold and warmth, and ice and fire on the Shivering Mountain known as Mam Tor.
