Colours of Dunquin
At the edge of the westernmost settlement in Ireland, on the tip of the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, is the beautiful harbour of Dunquin (Gaelic: Dún Chaoin). Colloquially known as the ‘sheep highway’, an impossibly steep and winding concrete path leads down to the pier, which is the link to the Blasket Islands. The area is culturally significant: a Gaeltacht district famed for its writers; a shelter for the Spanish Armada in 1588; and a filming location for Star Wars. This is my favourite view in all of Ireland, especially – as shown here – when illuminated by the setting sun.
