The Black Mount

There is an eerie, haunting beauty to the Scottish highland glens around Glen Etive and Glen Coe. The area was the scene of the most infamous massacre in Scottish history, when in 1692 crown loyalists from clan Campbell, having been granted hospitality by clan MacDonald, slaughtered their Jacobite hosts in the night. Whilst 38 were killed, many more escaped into the mountains, only to succumb to the harsh winter. This photo shows the sparse landscape of the nearby Black Mount, briefly illuminated.
