The Desert Sea
In the far south-east of the Qatari peninsula, on the border with Saudi Arabia, lies the unique Khor Al-Adaid or inland sea. The area is a tidal embayment of the Persian Gulf, which flows into the desert through a narrow channel. The result is a spectacular juxtaposition of sand dunes and the deep blue sea. Having historically been a haven for pirates and the subject of border disputes, it is now a UNESCO recognised natural reserve. Taken at sunset in October 2018, with no pirates in sight.
