Islet of the Þingvallavatn

Iceland’s largest natural lake, the Þingvallavatn, lies on the confluence of the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates in the southwestern area known as the Golden Circle. The aquamarine glacial waters and lush green islets create a vista more reminiscent of tropical climes than the North Atlantic and the waters are a scuba diving hotspot. The lake lies partially within Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site. This photograph was taken from a microlight in August 2016.
