Adishi Dusk
In a remote mountain valley in a remote country of mountain valleys lies the village of Adishi, accessible only on foot or by hoof over a high pass. Distinctive defence towers, so typical of the Svaneti region in northern Georgia, stand next to fast-flowing waterfalls and wild flowers. It was here that the oldest surviving Georgian gospels (from 897) were sent by Queen Tamar for safekeeping, and were kept hidden for almost a millennium by local Svan families. The village is now a resting point in the stunning four-day trek between Mestia and Ushguli.
