The Heart of Pakistan

Large, bulbous domes are an instantly recognisable feature of the Indo-Islamic architecture of the Mughals. Perhaps the most famous example is the Taj Mahal in India, but the three marble domes of the Badshahi Mosque in Lahore, Pakistan, are equally splendid. Lahore (لاہور) is a gem of a city; steeped in history, multicultural to its core and full of culinary delights. As the old Punjabi saying goes: “Jine Lahore nai vekhya, O jamya-e-nai” (“He who has not seen Lahore hasn’t been born”). I hope to be back in the Heart of Pakistan one day and walk beneath the golden domes of Badshahi as the muezzin calls for sunset prayer and the smoke of charred meat wafts into my nose from the rooftop restaurants.
