Mughal Morning

The Badshahi Mosque of Lahore, Pakistan’s magical cultural capital, is a magnificent example of Mughal architecture. Completed in 1673 by Emperor Aurangzeb, its distinctive red sandstone, white marble and giant domes have graced Lahore ever since, outliving the Mughal Empire, the Sikh era and British rule despite falling into disrepair. In modern Pakistan, it is a symbol of Islamic Punjab and is rightly treasured by the locals. This photograph was taken just after sunrise in February 2019.
