The Puffessor
In the summer months, the Faroese island of Mykines is home to tens of thousands of returning Atlantic puffins, who congregate on the grassy slopes above the cliffs to renew vows and re-make their burrows. Whilst not strictly monogamous, puffins rarely change mates and pairs tend to go back to the same nest each year to raise a single chick. Here, the resplendent Puffessor looks anxiously out to sea for a returning partner. This photograph was taken in July 2018, at puffin level.
