Elliðaey

The Vestmannaeyjar archipelago sits off the southern coast of Iceland, in the wild Atlantic. Its islands have beautiful and dramatic cliff formations formed by volcanic eruptions under the waves. These two photographs feature Elliðaey, which sits in the shadow of Eyjafjallajökull on the mainland. The island was historically inhabited by a few hardy families who fought with the elements until the 1930s. Today, the iconic puffin-hunting lodge is the only sign of human life – and gives a sense of scale.
