The Land of a Thousand Hills
The small Central African country of Rwanda, nestled between Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania and the DRC, is known as ‘Pays des Mille Collines’ or ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’. It’s easy to see why, as the country predominantly comprises of rolling volcanic hills. This photo shows some of the countryside on the road from Kigali to Ruhengeri, which is the gateway to the iconic Volcanoes National Park and the Virungas. A hotel bearing the same name is the setting for the famous 2004 film, Hotel Rwanda.
