The Land of Ice and Fire

Icebergs, much like clouds, can look like many things in the eye of the beholder. This piece of ice, broken off and washed up on the shore at Jökulsárlón in southern Iceland, reminds me of the map of Iceland. The Westfjords jut out, with the Reykjanes Peninsula nestling underneath, whilst the wild eastern coast extends like claws towards the Norwegian Sea. This photograph, taken in August 2016, would be at the bottom of the iceberg, about half way up as it rises on 45° angle towards the claws.
