Redwoods
These trees are known as coastal or Californian redwoods and are a variety of the Sequoia genus, growing along the Pacific coast of the USA. They are the tallest living trees on the planet, and can grow up to 379 feet. This photograph features a cluster of the trees in the old-growth coastal redwood forest at Muir Woods National Monument in Marin County, California. The area was saved from logging by William and Elizabeth Kent and became a National Monument in 1908.
