Tissukarpoq | The Drifting
There are six stages in the life cycle of ice. First comes crystallisation, then comes snowfall. After that is glaciation, which is followed by calving. After the calving comes the drifting and the end of the cycle is the melting. In the calm waters of Disko Bay, in north-western Greenland, the life cycle of ice can be witnessed at first hand. This image shows the drifting (or “Tissukarpoq” in Kalaallisut), in the form of a giant iceberg which has broken free from the Ilulissat Icefjord.
