Junglist Massive

The Petén region of northern Guatemala is home to the Maya Biosphere Reserve, a 5.2 million acre area that is part of the largest intact tropical rainforest north of the Amazon. The name Guatemala comes from the Nahuatl word Cuauhtēmallān, lit. “place of many trees”. The jungle teems with life, including impossibly-coloured macaws, dickering toucans and elusive jaguars. This aerial photograph shows the juxtaposition of the edge, between the turquoise waters of Petén Itzá and the dense green jungle.
