Múlafossur

For years the inhabitants of the tiny Faroese village of Gásadalur (Goose Valley), on the island of Vágar, were hemmed in by two 700m peaks. This meant a brutal climb to get in or out; even coffins were carried up over the mountain for burial. It also meant that nobody really knew about its magnificent natural wonder, Múlafossur: a beautiful waterfall which drops into the sea and which has become a travel icon. Everything changed in 2004, when a road tunnel was blasted through the rock and now the tourists flock. What price solitude?
