The Devil’s Pulpit
The crimson water at Finnich Glen in Stirlingshire, Scotland, is so evocative that the gorge is known as the Devil’s Pulpit. Local legends tell how the Devil preached to his minions from a rock in a stream of blood and how the site was sacred to witches and druids. The colour of the water is caused by the red sandstone at the bottom of the Carnock Burn, which winds along the deep ravine, enveloped by walls of lush vegetation. The result is a pleasing and mysterious juxtaposition of red and green.
