Colours of Porto
The colourful city of Porto, Portugal’s northern soul, sits on the sheer banks of the River Douro midway up the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. Porto is beloved of the British for its eponymous wine, which used to be ferried downriver from the fertile Douro valley in vessels known as barcos rabelos. The port houses or caves are still found on the southern bank today. This photograph, taken in May 2018 from Gaia, shows the Dom Luís I bridge and Porto’s vibrant old-town district, Ribeira.
